Questions & Answers

Independent Living — common questions

Most retirement villages use a Licence to Occupy or similar arrangement rather than a traditional lease. This means you have the right to live in the home but don't own the land. All contracts must comply with the NSW or ACT Retirement Villages Act and we always recommend seeking independent legal advice before signing.
When you leave the village, a Departure Fee (also called a Deferred Management Fee) is usually deducted from the proceeds of your home. We clearly explain all fees before you sign anything.
Yes — a spouse or domestic partner can live with you. Extended family can visit freely. Long-term additional residents require village management approval.
