What is a Home Care Package?

A Home Care Package (HCP) is a government-subsidised program that helps older Australians (65+) live independently at home. You receive a budget from the government and choose how to spend it on approved support services.

There are four levels of packages, ranging from basic support to high-level care. The right level for you depends on your assessed care needs.

  • Level 1: Basic care needs (approx. $10,000/year)
  • Level 2: Low-level care needs (approx. $17,500/year)
  • Level 3: Intermediate care needs (approx. $38,000/year)
  • Level 4: High-level care needs (approx. $58,000/year)

Questions & Answers

Common questions about Home Care

The government pays the bulk of your package costs. You may pay a basic daily fee (around $13/day) and potentially an income-tested fee if your income is above a threshold. Many people pay little or nothing extra. We'll give you a clear cost estimate before you commit.
Wait times depend on the package level. Level 1 and 2 can be relatively quick; Level 3 and 4 may take longer. While you wait, you may be eligible for interim support under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP). We can help you access this.
Yes — you have the right to change providers at any time. We'll manage the transition smoothly so there's no gap in your care. Simply call us and we'll handle everything.
You're generally eligible if you're 65 years or older (50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and need help at home due to ageing. You need to be assessed by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) to receive a funded package.
